Our Trip to Philadelphia

We're back home after a week-long visit to Philadelphia, which will probably be our last trip for a while. We chose Philadelphia for our last "pre-Sarah" trip because we wanted to see the Barnes Collection before it moves to its new home in the museum district (and we figured with two small children, we won't be able to visit any art museums for a few years).  The collection was phenomenal and Andrew slept through most of our guided tour (whew!). 

Even though we were towing a baby and a pregnant woman, we managed to visit the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, Elfreth's Alley, the Please Touch Museum for kids, and the Franklin Institute of Science.  At the Reading Terminal Market, we had a cheesesteak (not a very good one) at Rick's and some World Famous Bassett's Ice Cream (who's first ice cream flavor, back in 1861, was yellow tomato). Andrew really enjoyed all the new places and people. As long as he could run around, he was happy (and when he was happy, we were happy).

We had a great time and were especially glad the Grandma Joan was with us on the trip. It's always fun to spend time with her. It was also great to see our friend, Joanne, who grew up in Philadelphia. She was able to show us around and help us navigate the public transportation system (with which we Texans have limited experience).
