Since Andrew is learning about Christmas, we've been trying to teach him some Christmas-related terminology and symbols. He's got snowman, Santa Claus, and Candy Cane down pretty well. Yesterday morning, Sue Ann asked him what Santa says and he immediately replied, "HoHoHo." He also screamed out something when we put him on Santa's lap at the mall--we're not exactly sure what he screamed out, since he was also writhing and crying, but we're pretty sure it wasn't "HoHoHo".
Mommy and Daddy are also (Re)learning the details of Christmas (Kid Style). This year is just a dry-run since Andrew doesn't know what he should expect (i.e. this is the last year that we'll be able to cheat). Next year, Christmas will be orchestrated under the oversight of a fastidious and culture-savvy three-year-old--and we will be held accountable. We project that for every minute we save cutting corners, we will spend twice as much time convincing Andrew that Santa can still squeeze in through the fireplace to deliver presents even though it is blocked by our massive entertainment unit--or that Santa can't have homemade cookies and hot chocolate because of his Type 2 Diabetes . . . ("Daddy, what's Dy-a-mimis?") . . . Sigh.
Yes, after this year, it will be Christmas Full Throttle and, actually, we're quite excited about it . . . But this year, we plan to kick back on a bake-free Christmas Eve to gaze upon our tree with no topper and our partially-obscured fireplace with no stockings.
